Programs

Community-developed Watershed Assessment and Enhancement Plans play a crucial role in shaping the RCD’s objectives. By utilizing watershed plan priorities, the RCD is able to develop and facilitate a variety of programs to meet the regions collaborative conservation goals. Drawing on federal, state, and local grant funds and through a longstanding partnership with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the RCD is able to provide project design support, cost-share funding, technical assistance and education and outreach to community members working toward a common goal. Both the RCD and NRCS are non-regulatory agencies and have no enforcement authority.

The RCD works with willing landowners, farmers, groups and associations to implement conservation practices on their properties. Assistance is available with erosion control measures, drainage and runoff improvements, soil conservation, fire safety, manure management, riparian area restoration and more. In most cases, projects not only benefit the environment but enhance aesthetics and safety, improve chore efficiency and operations, decrease maintenance costs, and promote community involvement and good neighborhood relationships.
